About the Author

E. E. Smith (1890–1965) was an American food engineer and science fiction writer, born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He held a doctorate in food chemistry from George Washington University and worked professionally on doughnut and pastry mixes, writing fiction alongside his career. He is often called "the father of space opera" for his pioneering role in the genre.
