Description
This omnibus edition brings together twelve entertaining works by American science fiction writer Harry Harrison. Included are: The Stainless Steel Rat; Sense of Obligation; Deathworld; Planet of the Damned; The Ethical Engineer; The Repairman; Arm of the Law; Navy Day; Toy Shop; The Velvet Glove; Down to Earth; and The K-Factor.
Harrison was one of the most popular and prolific science fiction writers of the twentieth century, known for combining fast-paced adventure with sharp humour and social satire. Over the course of a long career he produced dozens of novels and short stories, and became particularly famous for creating the mischievous anti-hero “The Stainless Steel Rat.” His novel Make Room! Make Room! later inspired the cult science-fiction film Soylent Green.
The stories collected here showcase Harrison’s wide range within the genre. From the deadly alien world of Deathworld to the clever technological puzzles and interplanetary adventures found in his short fiction, these tales highlight his gift for imaginative settings, witty dialogue, and inventive science-fiction concepts. Many of the pieces first appeared in classic science-fiction magazines during the golden age of the genre, when Harrison was building his reputation as one of the field’s most engaging storytellers.
Blending action, humour, and thought-provoking ideas, this collection offers an excellent introduction to the work of a writer who helped shape modern science fiction.
All the works in this book are in the public domain due to non-renewal of copyright.
