Description

A Star Danced is the autobiography of English actress, Gertrude Lawrence, first published in 1945. With a career that began with a role in a pantomime at Brixton Theatre in 1908, Lawrence went on to star in nine films, and numerous stage plays and musicals, including Noël Coward's Private Lives. Her book recounts her life (Coward, her long-time friend, later suggested it was a romanticised and less than wholly factual account), including her experience with the UK's Entertainments National Service Association, where she flew to France to entertain British troops during WWII. Despite her success, Lawrence's personal life was tumultuous, and she struggled with health issues and financial problems throughout her career.

This book has 66,990 words, 114 pages in the PDF version, and was originally published in 1945.
