The Moon Maid
Description
The Moon Maid is a fantasy novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, first published in 1926. Originally published in three parts, this edition contains the complete trilogy, comprised of The Moon Maid, The Moon Men, and, The Red Hawk. The three parts were created independently and do not follow a consistent storyline of characters, instead depicting three distinct periods in human civilization.
The first part portrays humanity's initial contact with lunar civilization and the subsequent invasion by the Kalkars, a race of lunar invaders. The protagonist, Julian, shares memories of his future incarnations throughout his ancestral lineage.
The second part of the novel is a reworked dystopian tale originally about the consequences of Soviet Russia's takeover of America, but rewritten to feature the Kalkars as rulers who have forced humanity into a feudal lifestyle that prohibits free thought, religion, and private property.
The third and final section takes place 300 years after the Kalkars' invasion, where the two races have interbred, and humans live as nomadic tribes modeled after Native Americans, worshipping the American flag as a sacred symbol. The Kalkars have forgotten much of their advanced technology and have become increasingly exploitative, leading to the beginnings of a revolt.
