Pirates of Venus
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Carson of Venus is a fantasy book by American author Edgar Rice Burroughs, first published in 1938. It is the third book in the Venus series (also called the Amtor series), that consists of five novels in total. The book was initially serialised in the pulp magazine Argosy, and the events in it occur on the plant Venus (known to it's inhabitants as Amtor). This installment is quite different from the previous two novels in that rather than battling creatures in the wilderness, the hero Carson Napier and his love Duare, find themselves in a spy situation involving intrigue, disguises, and mistaken identity.
Written shortly before the outbreak of World War II, the book introduces a political fascist element in the guise of the 'Zani', as well as a character called Muso, in a reference to the Italian dictator Mussolini.
