Professor Challenger, as combative as ever, is persuaded by his friend and fellow adventurer Edward Malone to investigate an extraordinary claim: that an inventor named Theodore Nemor has built a machine capable of disintegrating any object into its component molecules and then reassembling it exactly as it was. Sceptical but curious, Challenger accompanies Malone to see the invention demonstrated, and the pair soon find themselves drawn far deeper into Nemor's experiment than either had intended.

About the Author

Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was a Scottish writer and trained physician, widely regarded as one of the most popular and influential authors of his era. He gave up medicine to write full time, later served as a doctor during the Boer War, and in his later years became a prominent and outspoken advocate for spiritualism.
