Description

Youth and the Bright Medusa is a book by American author Willa Cather, first published in 1920. It is a collection of eight short stories including Coming, Aphrodite! (about Eden Bower and her creepy neighbour Don Hedger); The Diamond Mine (the sad story of Cressida Garnet's relationship with her family); A Gold Slipper (an encouter with a singer has a lasting impression); Scandal (involves the singer from the previous story); Paul's Case (about a young, gay man who struggles to return to his oppressive life in Pittsburgh after visiting New York City); A Wagner Matinée (a young Bostonian named Clark receives word that his Aunt Georgiana is coming to visit from Nebraska to settle an estate); The Sculptor's Funeral (emotions are stirred during the funeral of Harvey Merrick); and, A Death In The Desert (about a man forever trying to escape the similarity between himself and his brother).
