Apocalypse Revealed
Description
Apocalypse Revealed is a book by Emanuel Swedenborg, first published in 1766, with the John Whitehead English translation appearing in 1912. In this monumental work, Swedenborg offers a verse-by-verse spiritual exegesis of the biblical Book of Revelation, presenting the text not as literal prophecy of worldly empires or events, but as a symbolic depiction of the soul’s transformation and the inner judgment of the Church. This is the first of his major works to include vivid “memorable relations”—accounts of his visions in the spiritual realm—offering firsthand glimpses into heaven, hell, and the process of divine judgment. Swedenborg, a Swedish scientist turned mystic, interprets Revelation through the lens of his theology of correspondences—the idea that biblical imagery reflects deeper spiritual truths. He argues that the spiritual Last Judgment, completed in 1757, and the arrival of the “New Church” are central themes woven into the text. With scholarly rigor and mystical insight, Swedenborg reveals Revelation as an unveiling of inner realities: divine truths, spiritual struggles, and the path to regeneration. The Whitehead translation retains the King James-style scripture quotes, making the dense symbolic material both venerable and accessible.
