About the Author

George Robert Stowe Mead (1863–1933) was an English scholar and writer best known for his work on Gnosticism, Hermeticism, and the Theosophical Society, of which he was an influential early member. He worked closely with Helena Blavatsky as her private secretary in the last years of her life, before later founding the independent Quest Society. His scholarship focused on translating and interpreting the religious and philosophical texts of late antiquity for a modern audience.
