Wisdom's Daughter is a fantasy adventure novel by English writer H. Rider Haggard, first published in 1923. Chronologically, it is the first in the Allan Quatermain/Ayesha series of books, but was the final published book in the latter. Told from the perspective of Ayesha, the book tells her story - of being so beautiful that wars are fought over her. Eventually however, rumours spread that she is cursed. After swearing an oath of celibacy and devoting her life to serving Isis, her main aim becomes to protect herself. Her resolve is weakened however when Kallikrates, a Greek soldier of fortune, comes to her seeking sanctuary. Unfortunately the Pharoah's daughter, who is wildly jealous of the Arabian beauty, comes after Kallikrates, and vows to destroy Ayesha.
№ 1 in the Allan Quatermain series.
