Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters, originally published in 1915, is a collection of short free verse poems. Each poem is an autobiographical epitaph of a dead person that lived in the fictional town of Spoon River, named after the real Spoon River that ran near Masters' home town of Lewistown, Illinois. Many of the characters are inspired by real people Masters knew or had heard of. The poems form a story of sorts - of gratitude, of pettiness, of love, and of the histories of their lives.
Last week about 25,000 people downloaded from the site, and 5 people donated. I run this site entirely on my own - I want to be able to continue offering these books for free, but need some support to do that. If you can, please make a small donation - any amount is appreciated. Thank you! You can also support the site by buying a collection, such as the Fiction (General) one, with 100 ebooks for only £7.00
