Description

Gladiator is a 1930 sci-fi novel by Philip Wylie. Taking place at the turn of the 20th century, the story is about Professor Abednego Danner, a scientist who lives in a small rural Colorado town. Married (somewhat unhappily) to a conservative religious women, he is obsessed with unlocking genetic potential. After testing a serum on a pregnant cat, and seeing the subsequent results in the kitten that is born, he injects his pregnant wife without her knowledge. Once born, their son, Hugo, shows incredible strength and speed, and has bullet-proof skin. As he grows, he is taught to respect his gift, and never use it for fighting. The book follows him as he grows to adulthood, forever hiding his true powers from the world around him, yet at the same time, trying to utilise them.

This book has 150 pages in the PDF version, and was originally published in 1930 (in the public domain because copyright wasn't renewed on time).
