Description

This is the second book of The Babylonian Talmud by Jewish scholar Michael L. Rodkinson. This ten-volume set was an attempt to translate the Talmud, the vast collection of Jewish laws and traditions. Rodkinsons' edition contains complete translations of the 'Festivals' and 'Jurisprudence' sections of the Talmud, comprising only about a third of the Talmud. This second book contains the Tracts Erubin (which deals with regulations concerning travel on the Sabbath, and the proper construction of 'Erub', propitiatory offerings for transgressions of these rules, usually, but not always, constructed of food), Shekalim (which deals with tithes), and, Rosh Hashana (which discusses the Jewish New Year, a floating holiday tied to lunar observations). It should be noted that Rodkinson has been criticized by traditionalist Jews who feel that translating the Talmud is not an acceptable practice.

№ 2 in the Babylonian Talmud series.

This book has 171,646 words, and 247 pages in the PDF version. This book is taken from a 1918 edition.
