This book contains 2,500 sayings of the Prophet Muhammad's son-in-law, Ali. The subjects of these sayings include things like: noble manners; eloquence; social relations; manners of speech; human nature; poverty; and bad habits. The Shia sect, one of the two main sects in Islam, see Imam Ali as being the successor to the Prophet, and believe that Muhammad named Ali as his successor. Sunni Muslims, on the other hand, believe that no-one was named and that Abu Bakr was the rightful heir to the Caliphate.
