Description

From the Earth to the Moon is a book by French author Jules Verne, first published in 1865. It is the fourth book in in the Extraordinary Voyages Series. A classic science fiction novel set in the aftermath of the American Civil War that revolves around the ambitious idea of sending a manned mission to the Moon. It begins with the formation of the Gun Club in Baltimore, whose members are passionate about artillery and firearms. Led by the president, Impey Barbicane, and the French adventurer Captain Nicholl, they propose an audacious plan to build a massive cannon called the Columbiad and launch a projectile to the Moon. As the Gun Club's efforts gain international attention and support, the narrative explores the technical challenges, financial hurdles, and international rivalries associated with the Moon mission. The story delves into the engineering and mathematics required for such a venture and the sheer determination of the characters involved. The book inspired the first science fiction movie in 1902 - A Trip to the Moon.
