A Fighting Man of Mars is a book by American author Edgar Rice Burroughs, first published in 1931. The seventh book in the Barsoom Series, the story is purportedly relayed back to earth via the Gridley Wave, a sort of super radio frequency previously introduced in Tanar of Pellucidar, the third of Burrough's Pellucidar novels. The story-teller is Ulysses Paxton, protagonist of The Master Mind of Mars. It tells the tale of Tan Hadron of Hastor, a poor padwar (low-ranking officer) who is in love with the beautiful Sanoma Tora, daughter of Tor Hatan, a rich noble. Sanoma is kidnapped, and as Tan Hadron crosses Mars ('Barsoom', as Burroughs calls it) searching for his love, he comes across some of Barsoom's most ferocious beasts: huge flesh-eating apes, gigantic spiders, and the insane cannibals of U-Gor.
