Description

Don Quixote (The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha) is a novel by Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. It is considered one of the best novels of all time, often called the first actual modern novel, and is one of the most translated books in the world. It was first published in 1605 and it tells the story of Alonso Quixano, a member of the Spanish nobility. Being very fond of reading stories about chivalry, Alonso reads so many that eventually he loses his mind and he decides to become a knight, and wander the land in search of adventure. Using the name Don Quixote de la Mancha, he recruits Sancho Panza to be his squire, and goes to live his fantasy. The book has been interpreted as a comic novel, a tragedy, and a philosophical social commentary.
