Description

Anne of the Island is a book by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, first published in 1915. It is the third book in the Anne of Green Gables series that Montgomery wrote. In this installment in the life of Anne Shirley, she leaves Green Gables for the first time to study art at Redmond College. Alongside her are her friends Gilbert Blythe, Charlie Sloane, and Priscilla Grant. After spending their first year in a boarding house, Anne and her girl-friends set up house in a cottage near the campus. Meanwhile, Gilbert gets rejected by her and their friendship drifts apart, until something drastic happens that makes Anne realise her true feelings. The title of the book refers to Prince Edward Island, which Anne comes to see as her home whilst she is studying.
