Description

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is the third book in the Sherlock Holmes series, and one of five short story collections. First published in The Strand magazine between July 1891 and June 1892, it was published as a book in October 1892. The twelve stories in this collection are: A Scandal In Bohemia, The Red Headed League, A Case Of Identity, The Boscombe Valley Mystery, The Five Orange Pips, The Man With The Twisted Lip, The Blue Carbuncle, The Speckled Band, The Engineer's Thumb, The Noble Bachelor, The Beryl Coronet and The Copper Beeches. Irene Adler, who appears only in A Scandal in Bohemia, would become a main character, generally as a love interest, in modern adaptations of Sherlock Holmes. The collection includes some of Arthur Conan Doyle's personal favourites (The Speckled Band, The Red-Headed League, A Scandal in Bohemia, The Five Orange Pips). In 1929, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes was banned in the Soviet Union because it contained 'occultism'. As is usual in cases of banned books, it then gained popularity there and the ban was lifted in 1940.

№ 3 in the Sherlock Holmes series.

Part of Anne Haight's List of Banned Books.

This book has 104,830 words, 188 pages in the PDF version, and was originally published in 1892.
