Description

This is Volume 1 of a 6 Volume set. The Jataka is a massive collection of Buddhist folklore about previous incarnations of the Buddha, both in human and animal form. Dating to at least 380 BCE, the tales show the Buddha's virtues whatever form he has taken, often with a cast of characters who get into trouble with the incarnation of Buddha being the one who eventually resolves everything. Some sects take the Jataka as canonical literature and reject some of the tales that are dated past a certain time.

This book has 159,540 words, 319 pages in the PDF version, and was originally published in 1895.
